"Autumn on the Escarpment"

One of the reasons I love where I'm based, is the designated wilderness area I know better than any. This is the Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park. Nestled on Lake Superior's South Shore, these ancient mountain remnants buttress up beautifully to this freshwater sea. Beyond that is one of the largest tracts of virgin forest east of the Mississippi, 90 miles of hiking trails, striking waterfalls and plentiful wildlife. Pictured here is what many consider the park's crown jewel at the peak of it's beauty "Lake of the Clouds in Autumn."
